Take a look backstage at some ideas we're working on, along with some of our most recently launched features.
The FiOS Lab Rats
Hello. This section of the site is developed by Verizon’s Product Development team, AKA the guys in charge of making new stuff. We work differently from most other product development groups—we’re all about experimenting and tinkering with new ideas, creating prototypes based on (occasionally silly) ideas, then testing to see what works.
The stuff that makes it down the pipe will be posted here, either just before or just after launch, to give you a sense of what’s new with FiOS, and all the ways we’re taking advantage of Verizon’s huge fiber-optic network.
Visual 411
CURRENTLY IN BETA
Visual 411 is a free widget that lets you search for local and national businesses from your TV. Using the remote control, you can find businesses by name ("Verizon"), by type of business ("Automotive"), or using a keyword. Directory results include the name, address, and phone number of the business.
FiOS Internet customers will also be provided with a Google map image to zoom in and out of, an important step in making FiOS TV the most useful service in the home.
15,000 TV Radio Stations
JUST LAUNCHED
This is a simple idea, but a great one. By partnering with guys like iheartradio, FiOS TV will soon feature over 15,000 radio stations from around the world, including commercial-free and artist-programmed channels. So you’ll be able to use your remote control to hear pretty much any station in the world, anytime.
HBO GO
JUST LAUNCHED
If you’re an HBO subscriber, you can now access about 600 hours worth of HBO shows and movies in the form of high-quality HD streams to your computer. The HBO GO site lets users queue up a list of content to watch right now, or create a watchlist for later. It’s pretty simple to use, and we’re proud of this partnership with HBO, which is creating some of the best original content on TV right now.
Generally speaking, as TV moves more and more online, we here at Verizon have pledged to be at the forefront of that change. That’s why we’ve dedicated ourselves to new technologies like this, that make content accessible to our customers everywhere and anywhere they feel like watching TV.
Testtrack
Testtrack is our special program designed to bring customers into our product development and launch process. Our products and services are made available to preview prior to public release, giving our beta testers a chance to tell us what works and what doesn’t. This is a crucial part of how we launch products at Verizon.

The FiOS SDK
Beta
Frankly, this is what’s at the heart of what we do in the FiOS Labs. At the end of the day, our goal is to make the most of fiber-optic technology; this can only happen if developers around the world have a chance to contribute their ideas.
If you or someone you know wants to create a widget for FiOS TV, there’s no limit to what can be done: games, photo-viewing widgets, social networking widgets, you name it. We’ll do what we can do to help, starting with an emulator featuring a simulated TV screen, remote control and debugging console.
Visit code.verizon.com to get access to the FiOS TV SDK, FAQs and documentation. Also check out the developer forums for questions and support, located on the site.
FiOS in 3D
Coming Soon
We're all about transforming your TV experience. That's why we're bringing 3D technology to FiOS TV. In just a few months, you'll be able to watch select movies and shows in a new, captivating way. As the demand for 3D content grows, so will our selections of 3D movies and channels.
Here's how it works. You'll need a special 3D TV and compatible 3D glasses to enjoy the full experience. Companies like Sony, Panasonic and Samsung offer both. Some 3D TVs may work with the older polarized lens glasses, but most require "Active Shutter" glasses with lenses that open and close as images move. Plans and pricing are yet to be determined.
