Why does my first backup take so long and happen at an unscheduled time?
printer friendly version | email this page | bookmark this page

The Online Backup feature is designed to do a full copy of all the files you've selected when the program is initially launched. Subsequent backups occur only when you schedule them. Only files that have changed or been added since your last scheduled backup will be copied.

If your initial backup takes a long period of time, there is a possibility that your first scheduled backup might be initiated before the initial backup is finished. Because of this overlap, it may appear that the program isn't running properly even though it is.

During your initial backup, if you disconnect from the internet or turn your PC off, the Online Backup feature will resume as soon as the PC is turned back on with an internet connection.

The best way to avoid the above mentioned issues is to schedule your initial backup for a period when the PC will remain on and connected to the internet long enough for the initial backup to be completed (this is especially important if you're backing up a large amount of data). Allowing the Online Backup feature to run without interference from other programs on your PC will also speed the initial backup. Once your initial backup is completed, your scheduled backups should run properly. If encounter any problems with scheduled backups, please send an email with your experience to both vzbackup@verizon.net and to backupfeedback@verizon.net.
