How do I create an email alias? An email alias can be useful to you in order to personalize your email account. For example, you can create an email alias that is easy for others to remember like YourName@verizon.net. The alias in no way changes your user name and does not create a new mailbox; it becomes the mailing name associated with your primary account and is immediately ready to use.

Use the Email Alias Tool now

Need help? Review steps for creating an email alias.

When creating an alias, many people choose their first name followed by a period, and then their last name. This way, you have a meaningful email address that friends and family can easily remember. However, your email alias and your email address are two different things.

Example
Email address: res85go@verizon.net
Email alias: john.smith@verizon.net

Any email sent to res85go@verizon.net or john.smith@verizon.net is delivered to the res85go@verizon.net mailbox.

If you change your email alias, the former email alias is held for six months. After six months, it becomes available to other customers.

Note: If you use email software like Outlook Express, you will want to update your email settings to use your new email alias.
