Create a dial-up connection with Windows XP Before following the instructions below, use the Verizon Online Dial-up Access number tool to choose a local dial-up access phone number.

  1. From the Start menu, select My Computer.
  2. Click My Network Places.
  3. Click View Network Connections.
  4. Click Create a new connection.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Select Connect to the Internet, and then click Next.
  7. Select Set up my connection manually, and then click Next.
  8. Select Connect using a dial-up modem, and then click Next.
  9. Type Verizon Online in the box, and then click Next.
  10. Enter the local dial-up access number you selected, and then click Next.
  11. In the User Name field, enter VZ/ followed by your user name (or your User ID).
  12. Enter your password in the appropriate fields. Make other selections (all are optional), and then click Next.
  13. Select Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop to place a shortcut to this connection on the desktop. You can use this desktop shortcut to connect in the future. Click Finish.
  14. Select Save this user name and password for the following users and select Anyone who uses this computer.
  15. Click Dial to connect.
  16. If you are having difficulties establishing a connection, return to step 11 and remove VZ/ while leaving your User Name (or your User ID), then entering your password.
