Verifying your Verizon Online account settings with Netscape® Messenger 4.5 - 4.7 on the Mac®
  1. Double-click the Netscape Communicator icon to start the program. This icon is usually located on the desktop, or in the Netscape folder on your hard drive.
  2. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
  3. Select Identity from the Mail & Newsgroups category in the left pane.
  4. Verify that your name appears in the Your name field.
  5. Verify that your Verizon Online email address appears in the Email address field.
  6. Select Mail Servers from the Mail & Newsgroups category in the left pane.
  7. Verify that outgoing.verizon.net appears in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field.
  8. Verify that your Verizon Online user name appears in the Outgoing mail server user name field.
  9. Verify that the Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) setting is set to Never.
  10. Select the server listed in the Incoming mail servers box, and then select Edit.
  11. Verify that incoming.verizon.net appears in the Server Name field.
  12. Verify that POP is set as the Server Type.
  13. Verify that your Verizon Online user name appears in the User name field.
  14. Select the POP tab.
  15. Verify that the Leave messages on server check box is not checked, and then click OK.
  16. Select News Servers from the Mail & Newsgroups category in the left pane of the Preferences window.
  17. Verify that news.verizon.net appears in the News Server field.
  18. Select OK to close the Properties window.
  19. Click OK to close the Preferences window.
