The Online Backup feature copies the files you have selected from your PC. During your initial backup, a large quantity of information is being passed from your computer to the Verizon servers. Keep in mind, initial backups may take more time depending on your connection speed and, ultimately, the speed with which you can upload files from your PC to Verizon Online. A dial-up connection will take more time than a high speed internet connection whereas a fiber optic connection would allow for the fastest completion of a backup. You must also account for high volumes of traffic on the network (which might also slow your backup) and possible network outages. Ensure you leave your PC on with an active internet connection during the backup process.
Subsequent backups occur only when you schedule them. Only files that have changed or been added since your last scheduled backup will be copied.
If your initial backup takes a long period of time, this may be due to one of the following reasons: - A scheduled backup may have initiated before your initial backup is complete
- You have lost your internet connection
- You are actively using your PC and other software applications are slowing the backup process
During the initial backup, please allow the Online Backup feature to run with as little interference from other programs on your PC as possible. The best time to perform your initial backup is when you can leave your PC running at night with an active internet connection or whenever you have finished using it for the day.
Once your initial backup is complete, backups will occur as scheduled by you. If you encounter any problems with scheduled backups, please send an email with your experience to both vzbackup@verizon.net and to backupfeedback@verizon.net.
