Defragmenting a hard drive using Windows Vista
To defragment your hard drive in Windows Vista:

  1. Click the Start button in the left Taskbar.


  2. Click Computer. [Show Me]

    1. Right-click the drive you want to defragment and select Properties. [Show Me]


    2. Select the Tools tab.

    4. It is recommended that you check your hard drive for errors prior to defragmenting it, but this is an optional step. Click Check Now in the Error-checking section to check the drive for errors.


    5. Click Defragment Now.


    6. Click Continue if the User Account Control window displays.

    7. The Disk Defragmenter window opens, and the message in the bottom left reads, "Defragmenting hard drives..." When the defragmentation is complete, click Ok.
