Creating an email rule to help remove spam from your Inbox Does spam seem to fill your Inbox when you're not looking? Creating an email rule in Outlook Express can help you get the spam out of your Inbox and into a folder where it can be reviewed later.

It's important to understand that you will need to continually update your Outlook Express rules to get spam out of your Inbox. As spammers change the products they promote or their methods, you will need to update your rules.

Note: Outlook Express email filters can help to reduce the amount of spam in your Inbox, but the most effective method is to use Spam Detector (which is provided free for Verizon Online customers) with your Outlook Express filters.

To identify spam and move it to an alternate folder:
  1. Start Outlook Express.


  2. Right click on Local Folders in the left navigation panel.


  3. Select New Folder from the pop-up menu. [Show Me]


  4. Enter a name for the folder where you want the emails that match this email rule to be moved.


  5. From the Tools menu, select Message Rules.

  7. Select Mail.


  8. If you have previously created an email rule, click New. The New Mail Rule dialog box will display.
