Spam is overloading my Verizon email account Spam doesn't have to be an inevitable part of having an email account. Avoid spam by using a spam-filtering tool that deletes spam before it reaches your Inbox.

How can I reduce the amount of spam I receive in the future?
  • Don't respond to spam. Some spam messages contain links that offer to remove your email address from a mailing list. But by clicking one of these links, you demonstrate to the spammer that your email address is valid, and it will then almost certainly be sold to numerous additional spamming operations.


  • Configure spam filters in your email software. Both Outlook Express and Netscape® Messenger give you the ability to sort (filter) your incoming email so you can put mailing lists in special folders, throw away unwanted junk mail, or even send an automatic response to certain senders. Filters assist you in managing your inbox more effectively and only take a few moments to set up.


  • Set up Spam Detector to reduce the amount of spam you receive.

  • Report spam that reaches your Inbox. If you are using a spam-filtering tool and still receive spam email, please forward the entire message, with full headers displayed, to spamdetector.notcaught@verizon.net.


  • Read a Web site's privacy policy before you provide any personal information to a Web site. If the site doesn't have a privacy policy, or if the privacy policy doesn't explicitly guarantee that your personal information will not be shared, you should assume that any information you provide could be sold to spammers or other direct marketers.
