High Speed Internet Solution Center

Manually check PC requirements The easiest way to find out if your computer will work with High Speed Internet is to run an automated test using the Check My PC tool.

Alternatively, you can review the High Speed Internet system requirements and manually compare them to your computer by following the steps below.

Check operating system version, processor speed, and memory (RAM):
  1. Press and hold the Windows key on your keyboard and then also press the Pause/Break key.
  2. On the General tab, under the System heading, find the Operating System version.
  3. Under the Computer heading, find your processor (CPU) speed - for example: CPU 1400 MHz.
  4. Under the Computer heading, find your memory (RAM) - for example: 261,616 KB RAM.
Note: RAM is measured in either KB (kilobytes) or MB (megabytes). Since 1,000 KB of RAM is equal to 1 MB of RAM, 261,616 KB is approximately 261 MB of RAM.

Check for a CD ROM drive:
  1. While in the System Properties window, select the Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
  2. You should see a listing for DVD/CD-ROM or CDROM. If you do not see a DVD/CD-ROM or CDROM listing, you do not have a CD ROM drive installed in your computer.
  3. Click the + (plus) symbol next to the DVD/CD-ROM or CDROM drive to view details about your CD ROM drive.

Check for an Ethernet or USB port:
  1. While in the System Properties window, locate the Network Adapters listing and click the + (plus) symbol beside it. If there is no Network Adapters listing, then you do not have an Ethernet port in your computer.
  2. When Network Adapters is expanded, you should see an Ethernet adapter/card, or Network Interface Card (NIC), listed. If so, your computer has an Ethernet port, which should be located on the back of your computer.
  3. Check for a Universal Serial Bus (USB) controllers listing. If you see no Universal Serial Bus controllers listed, you do not have a USB port in your computer.
