I clicked the download button, but my browser is showing me pages of nonsense characters. You are probably reading an executable file. The browser opened the file instead of downloading it. The Open button may have been clicked on the Download dialog box instead of the Save As button.

Go back to the Web page with the download button. Move your cursor over the link, but do not click the link. Right-click and select Save As from the menu. Navigate to the folder you want, type a name for the file, and click OK.
