How do viruses spread? Most viruses spread through email attachments. Opening the email attachment activates the virus. Never open an email attachment unless you know the sender and are expecting an attachment.

Some viruses can send themselves to all of the email addresses in your electronic address book. This is one reason to be careful when opening or viewing attachments, even if they come from people you know and trust. If you are unsure whether an attachment is safe to open or view, delete it. Never open or view an attachment from an unknown source.

If you use the Email AutoPreview Pane option within Outlook or Outlook Express, you also increase your chances of getting a virus. To protect your computer from viruses, you should not use the AutoPreview Pane.
