Setting the Internet Explorer Security Levels You can increase your protection from spyware by increasing your Internet Explorer security level to at least Medium for general Internet browsing.

Resetting Your Internet Explorer Security Setting [Show Me How]

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu.
  3. Select the Security tab.
  4. Select the Internet icon.

  6. Click Default Level. Verify that the security level is Medium. If it is not, move the slide to Medium.
  7. Click Custom Level.
  8. Slide the window scroll bar down until the Active X section displays.

  10. Select Prompt for "Download signed ActiveX controls" and "Download unsigned ActiveX controls.
  11. Select Disable for "Initialize and ActiveX controls not marked as safe."
  12. Click OK.
  13. Click Yes if a dialog box asks if you are sure that you want to change the security level.
  14. Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog box.


This security setting ensures that a prompt displays before software is installed from a Web site.
