How can I change my network's SSID? Periodically changing your network's SSID is an important security measure that should be performed regularly if you are using WEP encryption. One of the weaknesses of WEP encryption is that it uses a static encryption key. You can compensate for this weakness somewhat  by changing your network's SSID several times a year.

If you are using WPA or WPA2 encryption, it's less important that you change your network's SSID. Both WPA and WPA2 constantly change the encryption key, which provides greater security for your network.

Note: If you change your network's SSID, you must update the SSID settings for all computers and adapters connected to your network.
