Using Service Checkup to set up your wireless network With Service Checkup, you no longer have to manually set up your wireless network. Service Checkup can set up your wireless network in just a few minutes. It will log in to your router or gateway, set the SSID, and enable WEP encryption to help protect your network data. If that sounds confusing, it's an even better reason to let Service Checkup do the work for you.

  • Note: Service Checkup does not support Linksys wireless routers or Verizon One.
If you don't already have Service Checkup installed on your computer, click the button below to download it. If you have Service Checkup installed, double-click on the Verizon Help and Support desktop icon to start it.

Note: WEP encryption is useful for preventing unintentional connections to your wireless home network and offers virtually universal compatibility with wireless devices. However, it does not protect networks against a determined hacker. WPA2 should be your first choice for network encryption if it’s compatible with your network devices.

Using Service Checkup:

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable between the Ethernet port on your router or gateway and the network port on your computer.

  2. Double-click the Verizon Help and Support icon on your Desktop. This will start the Service Checkup application.

  3. Click Set up your wireless connection.

  4. Follow the online prompts to set up your wireless network.

  5. Click Finish when the successful completion screen displays.

  6. Disconnect the Ethernet cable between your computer and the router or gateway.

What's Next

After Service Checkup has set up your wireless network, the next step to get the maximum benefits from your home network is to configure Windows to share folders and printers.
