DSL filter installation Find the phone jack that is closest to the computer. This is where you will install your 2-for-1 adapter. The 2-for-1 adapter splits one jack into two, so you can use your telephone and your modem with a single phone jack.

To install the 2-for-1 adapter and a High Speed Internet filter:

Disconnect the phone cord from the phone jack.
Plug the 2-for-1 adapter into the phone jack.
Plug the filter into one of the 2-for-1 adapter jacks.
Plug the phone cord into the filter jack.
Leave the other jack in the 2-for-1 adapter empty for now. When you connect your modem (later, in Step 2), you will insert the modem phone cord (without a filter) into the empty jack.
