404 - File Not Found The 404 error indicates that a file was not found at the Web page you are viewing. If you typed the URL into the address bar to get to that Web page, check to make sure that you typed all characters correctly. A missing dot or a mistyped letter can cause a 404 error.

If you got the 404 error after clicking a link, then the file that the link points to has probably been moved, renamed, or deleted.

What else can I do?
  1. Reload the page by clicking Refresh or Reload on the browser toolbar.
  2. Manipulate the URL to browse another part of the site. Delete the part of the URL that follows the domain name, and then press [Enter]. Once the page loads, you can search for the file or page you were looking for.
For example, if the URL that caused the 404 error was http://www.verizon.net/brokenlink.html, then delete the "brokenlink.html" portion of the URL, and try again to open the Web page.
  3. Contact the webmaster of the site about the error you received.
