Universal Service Fees Telecommunications services provided by Verizon Long Distance are subject to a Universal Service Fund Fee. The Universal Service Fund provides telecommunications and information services to schools and libraries and rural health care facilities and subsidy for local service to high cost areas and low income households.

Depending on your location, the Universal Service Fund (USF) charge may be identified on the bill as "Federal Universal Service" and will appear in the "Long Distance Plans and Other Charges" section of the bill.
