Your Long Distance Calling Area Your long distance calling areas are defined by LATAs States are divided by area codes and by Local Access Transport Areas ("LATA").

LATAs have been developed to define geographical boundaries of local telephone service networks. The LATA boundaries determine which companies handle your local toll and InterLATA (long-distance) calling.
Calls outside of your LATA are referred to as InterLATA or long distance calls Calling services to these points are provided by long distance companies. It is your choice what long distance provider you prefer on your line or lines. Once you notify the local carrier of your choice, your InterLATA long distance calls automatically go through your preferred provider when you dial 1 + (area code) + number from that line or lines.

You can use another long distance company at any time by dialing the company's 1010 access code before dialing the number you are calling.

Frequently used country codes are listed online and in the White Pages of your telephone directory. Contact your long distance provider for additional information about specific country and city codes.
