InterLATA Calls InterLATA refers to service between two different Local Access Transport Areas (LATA) and are considered long distance calls. Some states have only one LATA while some have several. An InterLATA call could be to a different LATA within your state or to another state, to another state, or to another country.

Regulations regarding InterLATA calls are determined by the FCC.

Anytime a call generates a toll, you choose which provider you prefer. Once you notify Verizon of your choice, your long distance calls (or your local toll calls) automatically go through your preferred provider when you dial "1" + (area code) + number.

You can use another long distance company at any time by simply dialing the company's access code (1010 code) before dialing the number you are calling.
