Residential Phone Services Solution Center

About Phishing Phishing is an email scam.

Generally, you receive an email that looks as if it was sent by a legitimate company; perhaps one that you do business with.

The email will recommend that you visit the company's Web site for various reasons, such as expiration or change of a service, an attempted identity theft of your personal information, or an extravagant order. If you go to the site, you will be asked to provide personal information, such as your account, credit card, or Social Security number.

You may not be able to rely on the appearance of the Web site. The bogus Web site can be identical to the legitimate site.

If you are not sure about the email, and it is allegedly from a company you normally do business with, contact the company by phone or forward the email to them, and ask them to verify the email request.
