Residential Phone Services Solution Center

How Distinctive Ring Works Distinctive Ring is always on; you do not have to activate or deactivate it. Ring patterns When your phone rings you will hear the following ring patterns:
  • Main number. One normal ring within 6 seconds; 2 seconds on, 4 seconds off.

  • First number. Two short rings within 6 seconds.

  • Second number (if available in your area). Three rings within 6 seconds; short-long-short.

Your callers will hear a normal ring.
Additional information
  • Even though you may have up to three numbers, you can only make one outgoing call at a time.

  • If you have Call Waiting, a special tone that matches each ring pattern will let you know which number the caller is trying to reach.

  • If you have Call Forwarding, you can forward calls to all of your numbers or only to your main number. Contact Verizon for details.
