How to Use Speed Dialing Before you use Speed Dialing, you must first set up your dialing codes for either Speed Dialing 8 or Speed Dialing 30. You can change your dialing codes list at any time. Setting up your Speed Dialing 8 dialing code list
  1. Lift your phone's receiver and listen for the dial tone.


  2. Press *74 depending on calling your area.
    Dial 74 on a rotary dial phone for all calling areas.


  3. Listen for the dial tone.


  4. Dial a Speed Dialing code.
    You can select from numbers 2 through 9.


  5. Dial the telephone number for that code.
    If the number is out of your calling area, add the 1 and the area code before you enter the phone number.


  6. Listen for the confirmation tone.


  7. Hang up or wait for the dial tone to enter more Speed Dialing codes and corresponding phone numbers.


  8. Repeat these steps until you have assigned a different code to each number on your Speed Dialing list.
Note Once you have assigned a phone number to a code, it cannot be deleted. Instead, you can replace it with another phone number or, if you do not have another number, use your own phone number.

  1. Lift your phone's receiver and listen for the dial tone.


  2. Press *75 or depending on calling your area.
    Dial 75 on a rotary dial phone for all calling areas.


  3. Listen for the dial tone.


  4. Dial a Speed Dialing code.
    You can select from numbers 20 through 49.


  5. Dial the telephone number for that code.
    If the number is out of your calling area, add the 1 and the area code before you enter the phone number.


  6. Listen for the confirmation tone.


  7. Hang up or wait for the dial tone to enter more Speed Dialing codes and corresponding phone numbers.


  8. Repeat these steps until you have assigned a different code to each number on your Speed Dialing list.

Placing a call using Speed Dialing 8 or 30
  1. Lift your phone's receiver and listen for a dial tone.


  2. Press the code for the number you want to call followed by the pound (#) sign.
    Codes are 2 through 9 for Speed Dialing 8 or 20 through 49 for Speed Dialing 30.
Additional Speed Dialing information
  • You cannot use number 0 or 1 as Speed Dialing codes.
    1 is reserved for long distance access and 0 is reserved for the operator.


  • There is no charge for changing numbers on your Speed Dialing list.


  • In most areas, at least seven digits are required to program Speed Dialing. For programming numbers such as 911, contact Verizon.
