Residential Phone Services Solution Center

Cannot Hear or be Heard on Phone If you are having trouble hearing or being heard, make sure your phone equipment is properly connected. This problem can be the result of connection or equipment problems, such as, cordless phone interference, a damaged headset, or the volume setting on your phone needs adjusting.

You can try the following:

  1. Hang up and try again using another phone.

  2. If the problem persists, it may be the other party's phone. Ask them to check their equipment.
If the problem is due to old equipment, you may have to purchase a new phone.

Maintenance Plans

Contact Verizon for assistance if you subscribe to one of Verizon's telephone maintenance plans.
Maintain your equipment Follow the manufacturer's instructions to maintain your equipment. Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the phone. Water or cleaning fluid may damage the phone. Do not remove the facing cover. This could void your warranty.

The problem might not be with something you consider part of your phone system. For example, static on the line can be caused by cordless telephones with weak batteries. Or, your burglar alarm could be the reason your phone is dead. The simple step of disconnecting the alarm for a few seconds is often all that is needed to restore the dial tone.
Faulty phone equipment If your phone equipment is broken you will need to have the set repaired or replaced. Verizon does not maintain telephone equipment.   You can request repair service online.
