FiOS Internet Equipment
Verizon Online provides and installs the equipment needed for your FiOS connection. This equipment includes:
-
Optical Network Terminal (ONT)
Translates the pulses of light that carry the data over the fiber optic cable into electric signals that are recognized by your computer.
-
Battery Backup Unit (BBU)
Provides up to eight hours of power in case your ONT Power Supply Unit is accidentally unplugged or in the event of a commercial power failure. The back-up battery is for voice service and does not supply power for Internet or video services. -
The router
Provides the access point to the Internet and includes a firewall to help protect your computer from unauthorized access by hackers. Depending on when you subscribed to Verizon FiOS, you may have received a D-Link or Actiontec router.
