    • Installing a 2-for-1 adapter The 2-for-1 adapter splits one jack into two, so you can use your telephone and your modem with a single phone jack.

    Find the phone jack that is closest to the computer. This is where you will install your 2-for-1 adapter.

    To install the 2-for-1 adapter and a filter:
    1. Disconnect the phone cord from the phone jack.
    2. Plug the 2-for-1 adapter into the phone jack.
    3. Plug the filter into one of the 2-for-1 adapter jacks.
    4. Plug the phone cord into the filter jack.
    5. Leave the other jack in the 2-for-1 adapter empty for now. When you connect your modem (later, in Step 2), you will insert the modem phone cord (without a filter) into the empty jack.

    When you're sure that all of your filters are installed correctly, click Next to proceed to Step 2: Install DSL hardware.
