How to Use Intercom Extra Note This service is no longer available to new customers. If you currently subscribe to this service, you will continue to receive the service, but you will not be permitted to re-subscribe to it if you remove it or transfer it to another customer at your current location or to a new location.
There are four ways to improve your household communications:
  • Intercom Code Dialing - Transfer to an extension on your line.

  • Selective Call Transfer - Transfer an outside or non-intercom call to another extension on your line.

  • Call Hold - Place any call on hold and pick up elsewhere or on the same extension.

  • Three-Way Calling - Add a third party to your call.

Note No other extension may place or receive a call when an Intercom Extra feature is activated.
Intercom Code Dialing Intercom code provides two different ringing patterns for transferring a call to an extension on your line.

  1. Lift your phone's receiver and listen for a dial tone.

  2. Press the intercom code for the special ringing pattern you want to use.
For two short rings, press *5 1 or 1151 if you have a rotary phone.
For one short, one long, and one short ring, press *57 2 or 1152 if you have a rotary phone.

  3. Listen for a confirmation tone of two short tones and then the dial tone.

  4. Hang up your phone's receiver within 15 seconds.

  • All extensions on that line will ring with the ringing pattern you selected.

  • The phone will stop ringing when the extension answers.

  • The Intercom is activated when the extension is answered.

  • The intercom call ends when the extension hangs up.
  • Selective Call Transfer To transfer an outside or non-intercom call to another extension:

    1. Briefly press the hookswitch of your phone to put the party on hold.

    2. Listen for three short tones and then a dial tone.

    3. Press the intercom code *5 1 or *57 2 for the special ringing pattern of the person or extension the caller wants to reach.

    4. Listen for two short tones followed by a dial tone and hang up within 15 seconds.

All extensions will ring until any extension is answered. The extension that is answered will then be connected to the party on hold.
Call Hold To place an incoming or outgoing call temporarily on hold and pick it up elsewhere or on the same extension:

    1. While on the call, briefly press the hookswitch.

    2. Listen for a dial tone.

    3. Press the intercom code *53 or 1153 if you have a rotary dial phone.

    4. Listen for two short tones followed by a dial tone and hang up within 15 seconds.

The call remains on hold until any extension is answered or the party on hold hangs up.
