-
FiOS TV Widgets
-
Parental Controls

Where can I get a CableCARD?
You can lease a CableCARD directly from Verizon for a low monthly fee. CableCARDS plug into the slot labeled "CableCARD" or "POD" (Point of Deployment), usually located at the back of your DCR TV or DVR. Visit us online to add a CableCARD to your existing FiOS TV service.
Digital Cable Ready (DCR) device
What is a Digital Cable Ready (DCR) device?
A DCR device is a TV, DVR, or other electronic receiver capable of providing access to certain High Definition (HD) and Standard Definition (SD) digital services. DCR devices can also provide access to encrypted digital services without the need for a Set-Top Box when a CableCARD is inserted into the slot labeled "CableCARD" or "POD" (Point of Deployment), usually located at the back of the TV.
Certain advanced features are not available when you use a CableCARD, such as:
-
FiOS TV Interactive Media Guide
-
On Demand
-
FiOS TV Widgets
-
Parental Controls
To access these types of features you need a Set-Top Box.
Will my device work with a CableCARD?
Devices that work with a CableCARD must be labeled as "DCR" by their manufacturers. If your device is not labeled "DCR" it is not likely to work with a CableCARD. For instance, TVs labeled as "Integrated Digital Tuner" (but not DCR) do not accept a CableCARD and will need a Set-Top Box to provide access to encrypted digital content.
CableCARD Installation and Removal
How do I obtain and install a CableCARD?
As a FiOS TV customer, you can lease a CableCARD directly from Verizon for a low monthly fee. CableCARDS plug into the slot labeled "CableCARD" or "POD" (Point of Deployment), usually located at the back of your TV or DVR. Visit us online to add a CableCARD to your existing FiOS TV service.

Can I remove my CableCARD from the DCR (Digital Cable Ready) TV or DVR where it is currently installed and plug it into another DCR device?

What should I do if I move?
You must return your CableCARD to Verizon if you move outside your area of service. Contact 1-800-VERIZON (1-800-837-4966) if you are moving.
Do I have to remove my CableCARD from my DCR TV or DVR if I need to temporarily return it for repair?

Yes. You can install your CableCARD with the new device by using your desktop In-Home Agent instructions or following the online activation steps.
Information on MPEG 2 and MPEG4
My device only supports MPEG2. What does that mean?
Verizon delivers programming in both MPEG 2 and MPEG 4 format. If your device only supports content delivered in MPEG 2 format, then the services delivered in MPEG 4 will not be displayed when you select them.
I have a device (Blu Ray Player, TV, etc) that I use with a Cable Card. How do I know if my device will be able to view all of the channels?
The technical HD formats Verizon uses are called MPEG 2 and MPEG 4. To determine if your device is compatible and that both MPEG 2 and MPEG 4 formats are supported, please check with your device manufacturer. This information is often available on the device manufacturer’s web site.
Automatic CableCARD Configuring
Why can’t the CableCARD configure the device I am using so I can view all of the channels?
CableCARDS are security devices and lack the software required to perform this task. It is the job of the device you place the CableCARD in to determine which delivery formats will be supported and make any necessary format conversions.
CableCARD Troubleshooting
What should I do if the CableCARD activation screen does not display when I turn on my television?
-
Check whether the CableCARD has been removed from the card slot in the TV.
-
Ensure that the CableCARD is properly plugged into the DCR slot.
-
If it has been removed or it is not properly plugged in, try to reinsert the CableCARD into the card slot in the TV or DVR.
-
If the activation screen does not appear within five minutes, contact a Verizon Live Chat agent.
Note: Make sure to write down the CableCARD ID# located on the back of the card so that you will have it available when you contact Verizon. You may have to provide this number for troubleshooting purposes.
Why can't I create DVD copies of certain programs delivered through my CableCARD?
This means that the content you are trying to copy is protected to prevent or limit copying. FCC regulations for copy protection of digital content allow programmers to determine which content can be copied by end consumers, and how many times.
There are several levels of protection that may have been added to the content:
-
Copy never
-
Copy once
-
No more copies
-
Copy freely
You can only copy those programs that do not have copy protection applied, or are identified as "copy freely" or "copy once."
What should I do if my CableCARD does not work?
Contact a Verizon Live Chat agent. The agent will assist you to fix the problem or determine if your CableCARD needs to be replaced.
