At Verizon California, we know it's important to be a responsible corporate citizen and give back to our communities.  We are living this commitment every day and working together with community groups to help make our communities better places to live and work.

VZ supports Desert Sanctuary in Barstow, CAIn Barstow, Michael Page, director, Government & External Affairs presented a check in the amount of $10,000 to support Desert Sanctuary, an organization dedicated to the education and self-sufficiency of domestic violence victims.

Pioneers in your communityIn Thousand Oaks, Verizon¿s Telecom Pioneers and the R. Parker Sullivan Club members work with the California Telephone Access Program (CTAP) to provide instruments for the handicapped in California.

Helping kids achieve more in Eagle RanchAnd in Adelanto, Eagle Ranch Elementary in Adelanto was presented with a grant totaling $20,000 to purchase the technology needed to bridge the achievement gap among low income students and students for whom English is a
second language.

Verizon is making a difference in the Coachella Valley.  The Verizon Foundation awarded grants totaling $105,000 to various Coachella Valley organizations.

College of the Desert Foundation: The foundation will receive $25,000 to purchase software and materials for basic skills reading and ESL courses at COD.

Martha's Village and Kitchen: Another $25,000 grant will be used to provide medical care to domestic violence victims, adults and children, who do not have insurance.

Visiting Nurse Association of the Inland Counties: A $20,000 grant will provide laptop computers for hospice nurses in the field.  The computers are used for putting and transmitting patient information.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Coachella Valley: $20,000 to support the group's computer-based, after-school tutoring program.
