Welcome to Verizon California online, a great resource for news and information on how we serve you – our friends, neighbors and partners in business throughout the Golden State. Here, you'll find exciting information on our community service and our philanthropic work in the region. You will also find the latest news on how we are transforming our business by bringing the nation’s most advanced all-fiber-optic network right to our customers’ doorsteps.
Verizon is building its all-fiber-optic network in many areas of California. The network delivers a formidable alternative to cable and satellite by offering industry-leading FiOS TV, ultra-fast FiOS Internet and crystal-clear, reliable FiOS phone service. Verizon is the first company to provide a communications network that connects homes and small businesses directly to fiber optics on a widespread scale.
Building this network is important for the future of California. With speeds of up to 30 megabits per second today – and higher in the near future – this network makes telecommuting more effective, freeing our state’s clogged highways. The network allows us to more efficiently conduct commerce with business partners across the country and around the world. And it is the foundation for exciting new technologies such as telemedicine and distance-learning.
Since we embarked on our fiber-optic upgrade in 2004, Verizon has created more than 1,000 well-paid jobs related to the project in California, and we are currently increasing our sales and installation teams to stay ahead of the demand for FiOS services.
I’m especially proud of the strides we continue to make in California to bring more and more customers the choice of Verizon’s industry-leading FiOS TV service. On March 8, 2007, Verizon was awarded the first state-issued video franchise in California. Our statewide video franchise allows us to offer this innovative new service to hundreds of thousands more customers in California. We project that FiOS TV will be available to more than 500,000 homes in Southern California by the end of this year.
Please take some time to browse through the site and learn more about how Verizon is leading the communications revolution right here in California.
