What Others Are Saying About Verizon’s Fiber Deployment in Florida

State, local and community leaders expressed support for Verizon’s decision to launch FTTP deployment in Florida:

Florida Rep. Bob Henriquez said, “Verizon’s bold transformation from a copper network to a fiber network puts Florida at the forefront of a new and exciting era for telecommunications. It reinforces that the right public policy leads to tremendous benefits for our state and its residents.”

U.S. Rep. Jim Davis said, “We have only scratched the surface of the promise broadband connections can bring to our country. This forward-looking development by Verizon in Florida and elsewhere should encourage representatives in Washington and in state capitals to create the best policies for the rapid development and deployment of broadband in America, for all of our citizens.”

Linda Saul-Sena, Tampa City Council, said, “This is a plan that is as ambitious as it is exciting. We are witnessing today a historic development that will change the way Tampa’s residents live and work, leading to a true broadband economy. My colleagues and I pledge to do everything we can to spread this transition throughout our community as quickly as possible.”

Michael Rierson, Vice President, University Advancement at the University of South Florida, said, “This represents an impressive new option in broadband communications for the students, faculty and staff at the University of South Florida. We are delighted Verizon has brought such magnificent teaching and learning opportunities to our neighborhood."

Danny Johnson, business manager, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 824, said, “Verizon’s fiber-to-the-premises initiative expands the company’s broadband capabilities and will create more union jobs. Verizon is giving the IBEW access to jobs of the future and the opportunity to be a vital part of a promising growth area. As Verizon grows, the union grows, and our partnership in Florida remains strong and vibrant.”
