Verizon’s commitment to Maryland communities and customers has remained steady - in tough economic times as well as in prosperous times.

Verizon’s impact on communities is felt in all sorts of ways: as a major employer, taxpayer and investor that is stimulating growth and innovation, and as a corporate citizen committed to addressing social issues and improving the quality of life.

Verizon’s principal contribution to the well-being of our communities is connecting people through our networks - including, among others, broadband, mobile, and global IP. We continue our strong record of investing to make our networks - and the services and applications they make possible - available to as many people as possible.

Our philanthropy concentrates on improving education and literacy, protecting family safety and health, and helping solve the problem of domestic violence. We encourage our employees to volunteer for the local causes that are important to their communities.

In this issue of Verizon Connections you will read about just a few of our many recent initiatives in the state like the dedication of a state-of-the-art computer lab at Frederick Douglass High School in the City of Baltimore. The lab was made possible by a $25,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation and features 30 laptop computers and Verizon’s signature educational program, Thinkfinity. Thinkfinity.org provides free lesson plans and interactive learning materials for teachers, parents and students.
