Karen I. Campbell
Karen I. Campbell was named the Vice President and Chief Policy Officer for Verizon Washington, DC in April 2008. In February 2009 that role was expanded to include the state of Maryland. In this capacity Ms. Campbell is responsible for planning, oversight and coordination of all public policy initiatives involving regulatory matters in the District of Columbia and Maryland. Ms. Campbell is also responsible for all external affairs activities including community relations, volunteerism and direction of the Verizon Foundation programs within Washington, DC and Maryland. She is committed to advocating policies that will enable Verizon to continue to serve residents and businesses by providing a powerful network of advanced telecommunication and entertainment services.
Ms. Campbell is a seasoned telecommunications professional, and has worked for Verizon and its predecessor companies for over 20 years in a variety of functions. She began her career as a Supervisor in a repair center where she learned first hand the importance of providing great customer service. Ms. Campbell has held positions of increasing responsibility in Engineering, Product Line Management and External Affairs. In 2002, she was named Director of State Government Relations. In that role, she provided staff support on advocacy and policy related matters to all of the states in Verizon's territory.
After graduating from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Management and a minor in Engineering Psychology, Ms. Campbell pursued her Masters degree. She holds a Master of Business Administration from The George Washington University with a concentration in Science, Technology and Innovation. Ms. Campbell serves on the executive board of the DC Chamber of Commerce, and is a board member of the Washington Performing Arts Society and the Baltimore Workforce Investment Board. Ms. Campbell also is a member of the Leadership Greater Washington Class of 2010, the Greater Washington Board of Trade, and is a volunteer on the SES Baldrige Quality Academy leadership team.
