Welcome to Verizon - New York online, a great resource for news and information on how we serve you - our customers, communities and partners in New York and Connecticut. Here, you'll learn about how we are revolutionizing our business with new services and state-of-the-art technologies to meet the region's ever-changing telecommunications needs, and about our community service and philanthropic work in the area.
Bronx Academy of Promise, New York City, is among the ten teams across the country named winners of the Verizon Innovative App Challenge, a national competition created by the Verizon Foundation in partnership with the Technology Student Association to help boost student engagement and interest in science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM. The students were asked to use their STEM skills to design app concepts that provided real-world solutions for issues in their communities or schools.
The winning teams will now work on bringing their concepts to market, with professional support and training from Verizon employees and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab. In addition, each winning team’s school will receive a $10,000 Verizon Foundation grant to advance STEM education, and each team member will receive the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, courtesy of Samsung Mobile.
