Giving Back in New York
Verizon and its employees are driven to use the innovative power of our technology - and our philanthropic dollars - to address critical social issues. We are proud to partner with key nonprofit organizations throughout both states to be a positive force for change in communities in greatest need.
Nonprofit groups in New York and Connecticut received more than $13.7 million from the Verizon Foundation in 2010. The majority of the funds went to organizations that support education, domestic violence prevention and Internet safety. In addition, Verizon employees volunteered almost 114,000 hours to nonprofit groups throughout the state in 2010. Read the press release.

The Verizon Foundation is providing grants totaling more than $135,000 to 25 Westchester nonprofits.
The agencies participated in a competitive grant-award process earlier this year, submitting proposals that outlined how they could effectively reach the communities they serve by using technology and education to raise awareness of domestic violence, literacy and health and safety issues.
As part of that commitment, Verizon attorneys provide pro bono legal services to not-for-profits, particularly those that focus on domestic violence and education. Since the inception of Verizon's pro bono initiative, well over half of Verizon's attorneys have participated.
