Verizon has had an exciting year transforming our business from a traditional telephone company into a broadband entertainment company.  We’re doing that by bringing fiber-optic technology directly to the homes of eligible Rhode Island consumers. This advance technology, called Verizon FiOS, offers a rich array of video, internet and voice services to a growing number of Rhode Island communities.

At Verizon, we have invested millions of dollars in the FiOS network in Rhode Island -- adding to the more than $800 million of investment in Rhode Island's infrastructure over the past decade. This investment will reap benefits for customers, the community and our company for many, many years.
 
As excited as we are about the deployment of our fiber network, Verizon also is committed to improving the quality of life for our customers, our employees and the communities we serve. But Verizon's investment goes far beyond our communications infrastructure. It also includes the giving of time and money by both the Verizon Foundation and more than 1,200 employees working statewide.

In 2007, Verizon donated over $25K for English as a Second Language (ESL) programs to organizations that foster innovative literacy programs expanding their reach into diverse communities through the use of broadband and video technologies. An additional $500K was given to Rhode Island non-profits through direct grants and employee matching gifts in support of programs and projects that address the heart of social issues such as literacy, internet safety, technology education and domestic violence.

Rhode Island is a great place to live and work! We are optimistic about the future here, and are excited about the possibilities as we continue to build out our FiOS network to reach more consumers. I am excited that so many Rhode Islanders now have a real choice for cable and can take advantage of our leading edge FiOS TV service in addition to our data and voice offerings.
