Verizon is the first company in the telecom industry to begin using fiber on a widespread basis to connect homes and businesses directly to the network. We've invested millions of dollars in the FiOS network in Rhode Island -- adding to the more than $800 million of investment in Rhode Island's infrastructure over the past decade. This investment will reap benefits for customers, the community and our company for many, many years.
In addition, Providence was selected as one of five sites for Verizon's Fiber Solutions Center (FSC) to support customers of broadband products. When it is fully staffed over the next three years, the center could employ up to 350 people.
Fiber-to-the-premises will foster the delivery of a wide array of new products, ranging from broadband links that offer data transmission speeds far greater than anything available today to a variety of video applications.
The technology will transform the network and products that we will be able to offer consumers and businesses. For example, our slowest broadband connection that we will be able to offer will be far faster than broadband commonly used.
As you explore this section, you will learn more about our fiber products and services, construction information, and the many ways this next-generation broadband product will deliver innovative, integrated, and life-enhancing communications services to our customers and residents.
