  • Venezuela - In January of 2006, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced the government's intention to nationalize Cantv. On February 12, Verizon entered into an agreement with the Bolivarian Republic to participate in public tender offers by the Republic in the U.S. and Venezuela. As part of the agreement, Verizon Communications will sell all shares of Cantv stock when the government completes the tender offers.
These transactions do not affect operations of Verizon Business, which delivers advanced IP, data, voice and wireless solutions to large business and government customers; or Verizon's interest in Vodafone Italia, the second-largest wireless carrier in Europe.
