General - What is Verizon FiOS?
Verizon FiOS is our state-of-the-art fiber network that uses cutting-edge technology to let you experience communications at lightning speeds. Verizon FiOS transmits signals using hair-thin strands of glass fiber and laser-generated pulses of light, preparing you for future high-tech applications that will demand higher bandwidth. - What is Verizon FiOS Internet Service for Business?
Verizon FiOS Internet Service is a broadband service designed to provide Internet access with maximum connection speeds of up to 50 Mbps downstream and 20 Mbps upstream, depending on the service selected. It provides a standard suite of services including access to newsgroups, up to 10 Verizon.net email accounts (yourname@verizon.net) or up to 15 domain name email boxes (yourname@yourbusiness.com), unlimited dial-up access, and Web space. Optional services are also available for a fee. Multiple email accounts allow other business employees to have their own email accounts, which can be set up using the account management tool. Speeds described are between your location and the Verizon central office serving your location. Actual download and upload speeds will vary based on numerous factors, such as the condition of wiring at your location, computer configuration, Internet and network congestion, and the speed of Web site servers you access, among other factors. Speed and uninterrupted use of the service are not guaranteed. - How does Verizon FiOS work?
Traditional telephone service uses copper wires to transmit communications signals. Verizon FiOS transmits signals using hair-thin strands of glass fiber and laser-generated pulses of light. When that light reaches your premises through the Verizon network, it is converted to electric signals in a box installed outside your premises called the Optical Network Terminal or ONT. That way, it can be "read" by your telephones and computers. Information that is sent from your premises will be converted from the electrical signals to light in the ONT and transmitted out to the telephone network and the Internet.
