Go Digital with FiOS TV!

Your FiOS TV service is becoming 100% Digital –
and that's great news for you!

It means eye-popping pictures on every TV in the house and earth-shattering sound. More service enhancements in the future like expanded standard-definition and high-definition channels, and HD video on demand will be possible. All at the same great FiOS TV value you enjoy today.

Throughout 2008, we'll be transitioning our analog television channels to an all-digital format. A few simple steps are required to receive the digital channels, and we'll help. We'll notify you by phone and mail before your FiOS TV service goes all-digital in your community. Each television in your home will need either a Verizon-provided set top box, digital adapter or a CableCARD. The one exception to this rule is if your digital television includes an internal digital QAM tuner.

Verizon is leading the industry well ahead of our competitors, to bring you the benefits of 100% Digital FiOS TV.

FAQs

What is digital conversion and why is the transition from analog to digital occurring now?

Verizon's FiOS TV is currently available to customers in digital form. However, Verizon simulcasts a small set of channels, including local broadcast channels, in analog format. This analog simulcast was intended to allow customers to watch limited programming on a second or third analog TV without a set top box.

The federal government has mandated that all television broadcasting be transitioned from analog to digital transmission by Feb. 19, 2009, freeing up parts of the scarce and valuable broadcast spectrum. Verizon made a commitment with the FCC to eliminate our analog service by Feb. 19, 2009. To allow time to reconfigure our network and ensure a smooth customer transition, Verizon will begin the transition in the Spring of 2008. By making these changes now, we ensure that our FiOS TV customers have access to all the new digital content that's coming this year.

What will I have to do as a FiOS TV customer?

Verizon will be transitioning to the all-digital format on a gradual basis throughout 2008, and we'll notify customers by mail and by phone when their communities are ready. We'll start that transition in the Spring of 2008. We expect the transition will be finished by the end of the year.

Customers receiving FiOS TV service will need to ensure that each TV set in the home is equipped with a Verizon-supplied set top box, digital adapter, or CableCARD so that they can continue to enjoy the service on all of their sets. Only TVs with a built-in digital QAM tuner will not need a set top box or digital adapter to receive Local programming.

How do I know if my TV set has an internal digital tuner (a QAM tuner)?

You should check your television's manual to determine if it includes a QAM tuner or check for the DCR (Digital Cable Ready) label on your TV set. A QAM tuner is a special electronic tuning device found in some of the new digital television sets being sold today. A QAM tuner enables your TV to tune in to the stations included in the FiOS TV Local package without the need for a set top box or digital adapter. If you are unable to determine if your TV includes a built-in QAM tuner, then you should check with the manufacturer.

What should I do to ensure that I will continue to receive the FiOS TV programming that I receive today?

Customers receiving FiOS TV service will need to have a Verizon-supplied set top box or digital adapter on each television set that doesn't include a built-in digital QAM tuner so that they can continue to enjoy the service on all of their sets.

Once you receive your 60-day notification letter in advance of your conversion date, simply follow these 3 easy steps:

  1. Call 1-888-505-3512 to obtain all necessary equipment.
  2. Install the equipment on every TV that is in use at your home.
  3. Do not connect additional TV sets without a Verizon-supplied set top box or digital adapter. Unless these TV sets include a built-in digital QAM tuner, they will not work with FiOS TV service after we complete our transition to an all-digital network.
Can I redeem the government voucher being distributed for the Verizon equipment I need to avoid losing picture once my area is converted?

No. Verizon set top boxes and digital adapters are not eligible for the DTV Converter Box Coupon Program. FiOS TV customers will need a Verizon-supplied set top box or digital adapter to continue to receive the service. Only TVs with a built-in digital QAM tuner will not need a set top box or digital adapter to receive Local programming. The equipment listed above can only be leased from Verizon and only work on the FiOS TV network.

Customers will be given a 60-day notice prior to conversion, so that they will have ample time to prepare for the transition. Once the digital conversion is complete in each community, any TV sets without a Verizon set top box, digital adapter, or CableCARD will not be able to receive and view FiOS TV programming. Only TVs with a built-in digital QAM tuner will not need a set top box or digital adapter to receive Local programming.
