What is the Luge Challenge?
The Verizon Luge Challenge transforms ski resorts into a weekend of luge training and racing for excitement-seeking children and adults, exposing thousands of fans to this adrenalin-filled winter sport.
How it works
During the morning session, USA Luge National team members coach participants on the basics of sliding including hands-on instructional clinics and training demonstrations. After a few practice runs, in the afternoon, contestants don racing bibs and hit the "Ultimate Slide," a simulated luge track complete with banked curves and timing equipment. The event is divided into four categories:
The event is divided into four racing categories:
- Men 18+
- Boys 10-17
- Women 18+
- Girls 10-17
Competitors and spectators experience the rocket-like speed and adrenalin rush of the luge while listening to the action broadcast live from loudspeakers. Inside the main lodge, a 65-inch PANASONIC TV shows the event in real time. Sliders race to the finish line to a backdrop of cheering onlookers and ringing cowbells. The day culminates in an Olympic-style awards ceremony as USA Luge team members present medals to the top three winners in all four categories.
Whether taking to the icy track or watching sliders race by, the Luge Challenge weekend offers families a free, safe winter outing and a chance to win great prizes!
