 NetFacade® Intrusion Detection, developed by Verizon FNS, provides an added perimeter of network defense, complementing existing firewalls and other network security systems. The constantly changing security environment of increased virus distribution, Web attacks, cyber-terror and network hacking, creates the need to leverage additional intrusion detection services to more effectively secure network data resources.
NetFacade creates a Honeynet (simulated network) of hosts, with simulated IP addresses, running seemingly vulnerable services, so all traffic to the Honeynet is considered suspicious. A scan of the simulated IP addresses will return information on the simulated services as if they were real services running on actual hosts. The activity identified by NetFacade provides a clear indication an intruder attempted to compromise real network or systems components, so all traffic on the Honeynet is is logged and brought to the attention of the Security Administrator(s). This approach minimizes the amount of data reported and reduces the time required for analysis as well as reducing the frequency of false positive reports.
NetFacade provides the ability to configure security alerts at various levels and define specific actions to be taken when an alert is received. There is no limit on the number and types of attacks NetFacade is able to identify, including new and unknown attacks to enable administrators to program repeatable signatures for other intrusion detection systems and firewalls. Configuration and monitoring is through a Web-based interface, accessible only by specified workstations and users, controlled through Secure Socket Layer authentication methods. Alerts are delivered via email to a pre-defined list of recipients.
The basic NetFacade Intrusion Detection package includes software, installation support and Help Desk support for one year. Available options include an analysis of installed systems, system administration training, custom installation and engineering and security and intrusion detection training.
NetFacade provides configuration flexibility and can simulate up to 255 hosts across both Class B and Class C address space. Network address space can be dedicated or an existing network can be used to interleave simulated and real hosts.
