Transfer your Web site smoothly and effortlessly with Verizon Online.

Consult with one of our highly-trained Web specialists to help ensure the successful transfer of your Web site to Verizon Online. Our specialist will help you transfer your Web site, helping you to avoid costly downtime. For a minimal fee, we can provide consulting services to help with the transfer. We can also FTP your site to our serviers for you.

In addition to consulting with one of our specialists, here are some of the things you should do to ensure a successful transfer:

Back Up Your Existing Web Site

It is always a good idea to have a copy, or duplicate, of your existing Web site. Talk to the person or company that created and maintains your Web site to create this duplicate Web site (if you do not have one already). Route your Web traffic and e-mail traffic to the duplicate Web site while your transfer to Verizon Online occurs. Make sure that your current Web site maintenance and hosting providers know to keep your account up-to-date for the entire transition period.

Select your Server Platform, and a Shared Hosting Plan

Choose from the Verizon Online Windows- or Linux-based Shared Web Hosting plans that fit the design needs of your particular Web site. The Basic Shared Web Hosting plan for either platform is usually sufficient for most businesses, giving you ample storage space, transfer capacity, and room to grow as your Web business prospers. You can easily add additional features or capacity when you're ready. Review our Shared Web Hosting plans and select the one that's best for you. Once you select your Shared Hosting plan, Verizon Online will establish your new hosting account  and assign new IP addresses for your Web site and e-mail.

Load Your Web Site on Our Web Server

When your new Web site is ready, make sure that the duplicate Web site traffic from your former hosting location is routed to your Web site's new permanent home with Verizon Online. You will transfer, or FTP, your site to your Web site's new space with a special FTP login and password we will provide. We ask that you not approve the transfer of your domain name with Verisign or another registrar until you are completely satisfied and certain that your Web site is operative. Links and scripts may need to be adjusted after the site is moved.

Transfer Your Domain Name with Verisign

Your unique Web address, or Domain Name, must be transferred to a Verizon Online Domain Name Server. Verizon Online uses Verisign, formerly Network Solutions, as our registrar. If Verisign is also your registrar, follow these steps to start the transfer process.

  1. Verify that Verisign's records contain all the right administrative information and e-mail addresses for your business.
  2. Contact Verizon Online to initiate the transfer of your Domain. Verizon Online will contact Verisign.
  3. Verisign will send an e-mail to your administrative contact seeking permission to transfer your domain name to us. Your return e-mail granting that permission must match the administrative information in their records for the transfer to be completed. But, before you send that "permission granted" e-mail to Verisign, make sure the IP address at your new Verizon Online site location is working and you are satisfied.

Once Verisign receives your confirmation e-mail, they will transfer your domain name to the Verizon Online domain name server. Don't forget to re-create your e-mail addresses with your new address information, too, so you don't miss a message.

If Verisign is Not Your Registrar

If you have a registrar other than Verisign, formerly Network Solutions, you will be required to start the transfer process. Verizon Online cannot do this for you, though we will give your new IP address and other details your registrar needs to complete the transfer. Make sure that all the administrative information and e-mail addresses associated with your domain name are up-to-date to minimize downtime and assure a smooth transition.
