The TELECOM TECH will ensure data center continuity, mission critical infrastructure and network stability by monitoring ticket queues, and troubleshooting alarms to prevent negative impact on customers' service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, & METRICS

Managed Hosting Internal Support 
• Build circuit cross-connections within the Managed Services Suites
• Build and provide bandwidth utilization reports for customers
• Configuring / integrating in-house workstations and servers
• Configuring / integrating customer servers
• Configuring in-house and customer networking devices (all sites)
• Perform circuit migrations onto the newly deployed optical platform
• Complete managed hosting expedites and changes
• Troubleshooting customer servers, routing + switching equipment
• Update ARIN SWIP records for customers
• Perform data backup tape rotations for customers and in-house
• Serve as technical apprentice to IP Engineering Tier 2 (help complete CM's, etc)
• Prepare and maintain all circuit labels within the meet point rooms
• Perform routine and special customer requests in accordance with their respective SLA's
• Prepare, test, run, and dress any type of circuit on any medium of networking cable (ABAM, coaxial, fiber, etc)
• Provide customer technical support as requested

Data Center Operations 
• Escalate to appropriate group whenever network and facility infrastructure outages or assistance is required
• Notify management and Subject Matter Experts whenever a major failure occurs
• Processing customer work orders and ODT's upon request from other departments
• Build circuit cross-connections within the meet point room
• Configuring / integrating in-house workstations and servers
• Configuring / integrating customer servers
• Configuring in-house and customer networking devices
• Configuring Stratum clocking services for customers
• Perform circuit migrations onto the newly deployed platforms
• Complete circuit hot-cuts for customers and internal projects
• Train in-house personnel on new operational procedures
• Troubleshooting customer circuits
• Troubleshooting customer routing + switching equipment
• Troubleshooting customer servers (multi-OS)
• Perform equipment inventory
• Perform data backup tape rotations for customers and in-house
• Rack and stack any networking equipment for customers and in-house
• Perform security walkthroughs throughout the building outside of normal operating hours
• Receive any equipment delivered after hours to Materials Management
• Escort clients who have 2nd level restriction

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

• Two plus years' experience in Data Communications and Networking
• Two years' experience in multi-tenant data centers
• Two or four year degree in electronics or telecommunications related study required
• The following certifications is a requirement: A+, Server +, or Network +
• Two plus years of experience desired with the following areas: Build, install, test, troubleshooting, and support routers, switches, servers, and tape backup devices; including but not limited to, hardware and software
• Troubleshoot network problems
• Troubleshoot cross-connects
• Testing different type of circuits
• Knowledge of back-up hardware and software
• Identify Cat 5/6 cable
• Single mode and multimode fiber
• LC, FC, SC, etc.  fiber connector types
• Various media converters
• Various fiber and CAT5/6 cross-connect panels
• Good customer skills
• Good communications skill, written and oral
• Flexibility to work in a 24x7 environment
• Flexibility on working on different shifts
• Able to work over time
