The Linux/Unix Tier 1 Support Engineer acts as the first point of contact for technical problem resolution for our external customers. The responsibilities include:
Troubleshoot issues in support of enterprise production webhosting systems within SLA/escalation guidelines.
Take inbound technical support inquiries via phone, e-mail and ticketing systems.
Completely and accurately record all change execution updates in the ticketing system.
Manage Server or Network monitoring stations in the NOC when necessary.
Escalate all non-technical customer issues to Service Managers.
Assist new Customer Support employees with customer knowledge development.
Execute all non-revenue based change and shared infrastructure change as required.
Engineer will be expected to gain certification in their area of expertise as requested by Management.
Required skills and experience:
• 2–4 years of Linux Red Hat Enterprise Linux and/or CentOS systems administration.2-4 years of supporting LAMP stack or any one of the following:
o Apache
o PHP
o MYSQL
o DNS/BIND
• 2-4 years of installation, configuration, administration and support of UNIXLinux operating systems.
• Strong problem solving skills with a focus on root cause analysis and logical problem solving.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Exceptional documentation skills.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
Progress towards certification.
Preferred skills and experience:
• RHCT or RHCE for version 4 or 5.
• Solaris 9 or 10 experience
• Experience supporting virtualization systems such as VMWare, XEN & VirtualBox - preferred, VMWare VCP certifications.
• 1st, 2nd or 3rd level enterprise server support experience with a large managed hosting, web hosting or large corporation.
• Experience with implementation, configuration and administration of UNIX/LINUX in a large environment (over 200 servers / 500 employees).
• Experience with Oracle - preferred on UNIX/LINUX through installation, configuration and administration. This is primarily non DBA / developer tasks such as backup and restore, drop / adds, and job maintenance.
Systems Administration experience on large Unix Sun Solaris Systems including Solaris, HP-UX, and AIX
Systems Administration experience on large Unix Sun Solaris Systems including Solaris, HP-UX, and AIX
Should have knowledge with Unix shell scripting
