This position’s primary objective is to provide leadership and design assistance in the creation of custom (non-standard) solutions across a wide variety of technologies that meet the client’s requirements. This position will also provide design assurance to ensure complex solutions meet Terremark Service Delivery Implementation and Support requirements. The objectives for this position will be met by providing detailed technical design, integration, verification/validation, stability and supportability for all Hosting, Network and Storage technologies. Additionally, this person will create test environments to validate configurations while producing high quality documentation so custom solutions can be implemented and supported effectively using standard procedures.
Candidate will be responsible for the following:
Work with Sales Engineers to provide solutions to non-standard or one-off technology requests utilizing existing and/or emerging technologies.
Work with Sales Engineers to create, modify, and/or review provided custom technical solutions.
Work with vendors to help create custom designs leveraging new and changing technologies.
Work with Sales Engineers to help develop an understanding of standard products and technologies.
Effectively and regularly communicate with both Terremark Sales Engineers and Terremark Service Delivery operations and management staff.
Review sales orders and contracts pertaining to custom solutions to ensure accuracy as needed.
Own the engineering details and changes for custom solutions from the Sales Process to the Implementation Process.
Work with internal technical stakeholders as needed to identify and address how custom solutions will be integrated into existing infrastructure, processes, or tools, and/or what revisions to these components would be required to support the solution.
Create lab environments to test custom solutions, while creating detailed technical installation instructions and supporting documentation.
Provide technical support for non-standard or one-off solutions as needed in the Implementation Process.
Assist Project Manager with development and prioritization of the technical details of the project plan.
Collaborate with project managers and system engineers to plan and document custom solution deployments.
Work closely with Terremark product groups to drive the creation of new products or gaps in existing products by trending of repeated custom solution requests.
Identify and assist with complex ‘standard’ designs by providing thought leadership and vision in the creation of highly complex technical and supportable solutions.
Any project deemed necessary by Terremark Management.
Required Skills:
- 10+ years in an enterprise class IT or managed service organization
- 7+ years designing IT hosting solutions or IT implementation/support experience
- Ability to analyze requirements provided by internal engineering teams and develop a technical solution
- Demonstrates expert knowledge of chosen technology area (subject matter expert) by hands on experience, training or certification focused on two of the following technologies:
o Network LAN/WAN vendors (Cisco, Juniper)
o Network Firewall vendors (Cisco, Juniper)
o Network Load Balancer vendors (Citrix, F5)
o Tier one storage vendors (3Par, EMC, NetApp, HP, Hitachi)
o Server vendors (HP, IBM, Cisco)
o Virtualization vendors (VMware, Citrix, Hyper-V)
o Operating System vendors (Microsoft, Red Hat, Solaris, IBM, HP)
o Middleware vendors (Jboss, Weblogic, Websphere)
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise expert judgment
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with great attention to detail
- Ability to adapt and learn new technologies as required
- Ability to take a creative approach to situations and problem solving
Comfortable working in a fast paced, high volume, multi-tasking work environment with ability to meet tight deadlines
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS/CIS), related degree or equivalent experience
Industry Certifications Preferred: MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, CISSP, SUN, RHCE, or VCP. Equivalent industry experience will be considered.
