Cloud Engineer – Sys Spec/Architecture

Position Responsibilities:

The position requires delivering capacity, configuration management services, engineering, development, administration, support and ongoing maintenance of Terremark's cloud computing platform. This role is also responsible for the implementation, development, optimization and

related business processes & procedures related to a Terremark's infrastructure. The position also serves as a third tier escalation for incidents or problems that occur in the customer environment that could be related to the storage sub-system. An engineer in this role must be able to understand application level performance characteristics and capacity requirements and have the skill to identify actionable activities to assist in maintaining an acceptable service level for associated environments and applications.

 

 • Engineer and maintain environment characteristics, including:  physical array and servers characteristics, logical disk layout, standard storage and servers configurations, storage network

• Manage advanced data protection functions such as replication, cloning and snapshots as required by the customer

• Engage with customer application and system administration resources to plan for current and long term performance and capacity requirements

• Work with project and service management resources to develop action items related to the implementation and sustained configuration management of the environment

• Own configuration change activities required to deploy and maintain customer environments

• Create and maintain documentation to support the configuration management for customer environments

• Analyze data and develop meaningful reports used by technical and business leaders

• Manage relationship with vendors for purposes of support, maintenance and escalation

• Deploy and manage associated application platforms used in the management for the customer environment

• Create knowledge base articles that can be used by tier one support engineers in response to routine incidents

• Serve as third tier escalation for incidents or problems in a customer environment that could be related to the storage environment

• Identify and schedule routine maintenance events for customer environments

• Monitor performance characteristics on a regular basis and implement configuration change that provides consistent performance

• Maintain middleware and automation scripts used for system administration

 

Required Skills & Experience:

• 8+ years in an enterprise class IT or managed service organization

• 3+ years experience managing enterprise class storage arrays

• 4+ years experience working with enterprise server platforms (HP, SUN, Dell, IBM)

• Ability to analyze requirements delivered by system and application administrators and develop a management strategy

• Capability to mine performance and capacity data from various sources and formulate valuable analysis

• Strong understanding of replication and snapshot methodologies used in enterprise storage environments

• Experience with moving/migrating systems and data

• Hands on experience, training or certification focused on tier one storage vendors (EMC, NetApp, HP, Hitachi, 3PAR)

• Hands on experience, training or certification focused on storage area networking vendors (Brocade, Cisco)

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS/CIS), related degree or equivalent experience

• Microsoft MCP or MCSE preferred. Equivalent industry experience will be considered

• Technical knowledge of server hardware, operating systems and applications

• Excellent documentation, communication and interpersonal skills
