Position Responsibilities

Test and evaluate the high speed optical transmission products for use in the Verizon Network.  This effort will include research of specifications, writing of test plans, conducting the test effort, developing test automation, problem isolation and resolution and test report writing.  This person will interface with the various engineering groups to obtain test requirements, the vendor for problem resolution, and with the field organizations to ensure a quality product is delivered to the field.

Maintains all requisite records, policies, and procedures to support an ISO certified organization.

Required Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will have the following:
1. 7-10 years experience in testing transport systems such as: SONET/OTN overhead testing, DWDM/SONET/OTN and Packet Based systems or closely related disciplines
2. Detailed knowledge of Packet Based communications systems
3. Detailed knowledge of SONET/OTN communications systems
4. Ability to write scripts to facilitate test automation efforts
5. Good communications skills to interact with employees and with vendors
6. Good  prioritization and multi-tasking skills
7. Highly motivated, self starter able to work individually and collaboratively with diverse technical team.
8. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Candidates who hold degrees will be given first consideration

Desired Skills & Experience

1. Background in the Verizon Transport Network
2. Knowledge of and experience testing the major transport vendors systems, such as Alcatel - Lucent, Siena, Fujitsu, Nortel.
3. Broad knowledge of telecommunications network, including: Fiber Optics Technology, IP/Packet Based Networks,  Digital Cross Connects, SONET, DWDM Systems, OTN Networks.
4. Proven ability to work independently on testing major platforms
5. Knowledge of ISO-based systems
