Type of Change:
This provides a change in the implementation date for Lata Sectoring in Eastern Massachusetts. Verizon is making a second Common Channel Signaling Network (CCSN) mated Signaling Transfer Point (STP) pair available for interconnection in the Eastern Massachusetts LATA (128).
Date Changes are to Occur:
These changes are expected to occur is the 3rd Quarter 2001.
Location Change is to Occur:
This change effects the Eastern Massachusetts LATA (128) only.
Competitive Carrier Requirements:
It is at the competitive carrier's discretion whether they deploy SS7 links to this second mated STP pair. Current interconnection requirements in the Eastern Massachusetts (128) LATA are not affected by this network rearrangement. Augmentation of existing interconnections (to accommodate increases in signaling traffic) must be accomplished by increasing the number of links in existing linksets. Carriers electing to deploy interconnections to both pairs of mated STPs are required to engineer them identically using current engineering guidelines as if they were the carrier's sole interconnection to the LATA. In other words, the carrier interconnecting to both pairs of mated STPs will deploy a total of twice the number of links it would deploy if it were connecting to only a single mated STP pair.
Reasonably Foreseeable Impact of Changes:
This change is being implemented to enhance Bell Atlantic's service reliability in the unanticipated event of a failure of a mated pair of STPs. Carriers interconnecting to both mated STP pairs serving the LATA will obtain the same enhancement. As is the case today, carriers connecting to a single mated STP pair will lose connectivity to Bell Atlantic network elements in the LATA (and any other network elements accessed through that interconnection) in the event of a failure of the interconnecting mated STP pair. Carriers electing to remain interconnected to only a single pair of mated STPs serving the LATA should experience no degradation in service. They may experience a slight increase in reliability due to the fact that connectivity to a Bell Atlantic node in the LATA will survive a failure of its linksets to one pair of mated STPs, so long as it retains connectivity to the second pair of mated STPs.
