Types of Changes:
Direct Plus is a new service that, when combined with currently available Feature Group D (FGD) switched access services, provides carriers with end-to-end, including "POP-to-POP", switching and transport capabilities for direct-dialed international and domestic calls that originate in Bell Atlantic. Direct Plus service offers carriers seamless, end-to-end transport capabilities for calls that originate and terminate in Bell Atlantic’s territory. Direct Plus service also provides Bell Atlantic the ability to hand off originating traffic that is to be completed outside Bell Atlantic’s territory at centralized tandem switch locations.
Direct Plus service also includes optional ANI, account code and authorization code screening features. Bell Atlantic is establishing customer ordering interfaces for these options, as described below. Additional product information may be obtained from the Product Manager listed below.
Network Interface Requirements:
Direct Plus will interconnect with FGD switched access services. The network interface requirements for common carriers include the digital interfaces, common channel signaling, digital network synchronization, and digital network loss plan described in the following documents:

Bell Atlantic will offer common carriers the ability to deliver electronically ANI, account code and authorization code ordering information. Common carriers can arrange for connection to the appropriate Bell Atlantic OSS using dedicated network connections (e.g. DS0, DS1), Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) or Analog dial-up network connections or Internet-based connections.
Communications across these network connections can be either Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Industry Standard, or via Web Based Proxies (depending on type connection used). The supported data-link protocols are Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and Point to Point Protocol (PPP). Application supported protocols are Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), Hyper Text Transport Protocol (HTTP) and File Transfer Protocol (FTP).
Dates changes are to occur:
Direct Plus is tentatively scheduled to be available as early as 7/1/97, subject to approval by the appropriate federal and state regulatory agencies. To confirm the actual deployment dates, contact the Product Manager listed below.
Locations changes are to occur: Direct Plus will interconnect with FGD switched access services in the following jurisdictions: Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Direct Plus will interconnect with common carriers in the Washington and Philadelphia LATAs for the purpose of handing off originating traffic that is to be completed outside the Bell Atlantic territory.
Reasonably foreseeable impact of change:
Direct Plus service offers common carriers inter/intraLATA switching and transport capabilities that will support their direct dialed, switched telecommunications services.
